How many use your CD player?

I agree with your comment on using audio books. When I have a long road trip I will stop by the public library and get a few books on CD. Then I can load up the CD player and I have a great "read".

What's a "CD player"?
Random question: Prof, do you work at UIUC?

My 2009 B8 (with B&O and 2G satnav) had a 6cd but no AMI and no CD slots. I used one CD for the owners manual disk and just kept putting in MP3 CDs.
On my 2010 B8 (with B&O and 3G satnav)I was surprised it was only one slot...but then I realised with AMI I had all my music plus I had a 10Gb space on the HDD plus I had two 32Gb SD slots. The manual can be uploaded into the MMI so it's all much neater. I'm glad I didn't pay for the 6CD option this time around.

I'm still old school 2-channel sound and like my CDs in home audio so same for car. Can SD card/reader produce same sound as CD? I don't hear it. I've transfered out-of-print CDs to SD for the road but not sure the same sound produced. Y'all MP3 and SD freaks have just fried your eardrums with your buds and don't know what you're missing.

Maybe you should try another.
In all encoders you can select bit rate. In some encoders you can select variable bit rate (to save space in the parts that are less complex). I use variable bit rate set to minimum 160kbit/s (and allow up to the maximum 320).
With good material I think these MP3:s sound quite good. I play them both at home and in the car (B&O in the car).
Unfortunately it has been a habit among audio CD producers for a while now to increase the average sound level on there production, ending up in "hyper compression". This type of abused material does not sound good and can deteriorate further depending on how the signal processing is done in a CD player.
I believe an MP3 encoder can have the same problem. If this is the case I think that reducing the level before encoding, giving some processing head room, might help (somewhat).
