For those enthusiasts who change their oil, would someone please post a detailed method on changing the oil and filter for a A4 B8 in the Resources (Tech) section of AudiWorld. This would be much appreciated.

Most repair facilities' insurance prohibits customers being in the shop.
Of course, those policies get violated, temporarily, most every day but it's still routine policy.
That and I could understand a service tech not being be especially keen on having a customer looking over his shoulder while he's working.

(Had) my oil changed oil at 10K.
Went to the dealer and looked every inch of the way.
Better not to touch it on your first time; odd placement of filters
and not to mention a gigantic plastic undercarriage floor pan to remove.
Put in Castrol Sport 0W-40 and a brand spanking new K&N air filter.
She flies like a bat out of hell and average fuel consumption
dropped to 1 us gallon for 39 miles.
She still has to get her first "official" oil change.
Then we add the bosh four pronged spark plugs. Yummy.

I changed my own oil 90% of the time on my old B5 (1996) and B6 (2002) A4s. The B8 is no different, with the exception of the oil filter being at the top on the 2.0 engines.
Dropping the belly pain is, at most, a minor pain in the ***. To make things easier to access, you can jack up the car slightly, but I have removed the pan while leaving the car on the ground. There are about a dozen bolts/screws/fasteners to remove, including a couple in each wheel well. Turn the tires in, one side at a time, to make it easier to reach the fasteners at the front of the wheel wells.
Once the pan is removed, the rest is standard procedure. Remove the drain plug, drain the oil, remove the oil filter, replace the plug, put on a new filter, fill the engine up with new oil.
I got to the point where I could do the entire job in 30 minutes. But now with the B8, with the oil filter on the top, I expect the job to take no more than 15 minutes -- using a Pella oil extractor. No longer will I have to remove that damn belly pan. I'll just suck the oil out through the dipstick hole. Can't get easier than that.

You guys really love those oil extractors... i'm going to look into it!
I was always concerned about debris not coming out if the oil is sucked out... however I did remember that most oil pans have one hell of a magnet on the bottom. This would cause shavings not to come out of the drain plug anyways.

The three brands you mention are not making filters suitable for the extended drain period of your Audi.
Stick with OEM. You will sleep better. Your engine will not die from sludge at 80K. Mann and Mahle do not have a filter listed for aftermarket yet. My 2.0l car has a spin on filter. Most filters in Germany are now cartridge types.
