i.e. if you set the brake while the discs are still hot the thickness is increased over nominal due to expansion and when the brakes cool you may not have enough pressure to keep the car safely braked. So the system checks the temperature of the rotors, and presumably uses a temperature model to account for cooling and determine when the brake tension needs to be increased due to contraction. Clever.
For your question, so long as you don't set the parking brake to begin with I don't think you'll have a problem with it retensioning into hot rotors.

I could see it being useful but having learned without it the feature would drive me nuts - based on my limited time using it with various Subarus in the past anyway. Being able to roll back down a hill is frequently useful too.

I've never heard of a parking brake 'failing' some time after initially being set. maybe I don't live in hilly enough neighborhood to have experienced this.
