I'm doubtful the A4 could hang with a WRX, but it would be close enough (unless you like to take your children street racing often). When I partial-throttle my WRX, it shoves me back into the seat HARD. The A4, even chipped, does not. The Subie can chirp all four tires from a stop at will. Regardless, the A4 has enough power to be satisfying in day-to-day driving and is leaps and bounds ahead as far as hauling kids or taking road trips goes.
