Default Lease Return - What they overlook and what they charge

Hey Guys,

Anyone know what is acceptable wear and tear on a lease return Audi A4. In terms of tiny rock chips or scraps that are not visible unless you look for them. How much is the typical charge and how strict are they on what they consider acceptable as chassey damage over the course of owning the car.

Thanks

Default Wrong forum I suspect?

Talk to your dealer for the specifics, but normal wear and tear would include those minor chips on the hood from normal driving. There is a minimum tire tread required. Dents and such will need to be repaired, and cheaper if you get the repairs done yourself vs Audi doing it.

Default small dents less than credit card sized, even though still pretty big are cleared, take your chance.

I haven't been charged on my last 3 lease turn ins.

Default You need to read the AFS wear and use policy

Click on the link and download the .pdf file. It's al spelled out for you. If your tires have less than 4/32" thread, I suggest that you buy and mount some used tire with 5/32" or 6/32" thread before you have your lease-end inspection done. I did mine after the inspection and it was a bit of hassle to get AFS to accept the used tires with the receipt I faxed them. At the end, they accepted it.

The inspector for my 2006 B7 was very thorough. The only thing he could find on my mint car was a slight wheel curb rash. He wrote it up since they apparenbtly have to find something, but I was not charged anything.

Audi Financial Services Wear and Use policy

Default One thing to remember - that it is usually cheaper to have them identify something for...

repair than to fix anything prior to inspection. I had mostly worn tires and the report dinged me $100/tire instead of the $150 I would have shelled out. My hood looked like a starfield and they were going to charge $300ish for a full hood repaint.

And remember to totally detail your car beforehand (you should be doing it regularly anyway). My car looked fantastic and many little things can be overlooked. The guy who checked out my Bril Black B6 had never seen a lease turn-in that did not have swirl marks before. He couldn't get over how good it looked and I think that helped my case.
