Look out A4: VW Bringing AWD GTI-R to NA
Looks like the A4 has some competition:

Volkswagen has confirmed that the high-powered all-wheel drive Golf R, which debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show last month, will be sold in North America. Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (the same powerplant found under the hood of the Audi TT-S) the Golf R makes 265hp and 258 ft-lbs of torque.
Volkswagen estimates the car’s 0-62 mph time is roughly 6.5 seconds with the six-seed manual transmission or 6.4 seconds with the DSG automatic. Inside and out the Golf R has plenty of unique features including LED daytime running lights, new five-spoke wheels, a new grille, R side skirts and badging and dual exhaust pipes. Inside there are new sport seats, special aluminum pedals and a flat-bottom steering wheel.
When it does arrive here, most likely later in 2010 as a 2011 model (as as not to steal the GTI’s thunder), it will be badged as the GTI-R.

0-62 in 6.5? If it's the same power plant as the TT-S why aren't we looking at times of 5 seconds flat? It would seem they are similar weight.
Also, I doubt this is any competition to the A4, completely different market in my opinion. Those in the market for a luxury sedan are not also in the market for a sporty hatchback IMHO.

It will cut into sales of the Audi A3 2.0T quattro though. The engine in the GTI-R will likely be the same 2.0T found in the Audi S3/TT-S (stronger bottom end with a K04 turbo), but without valve lift. Its very likely the 2.0T in the A4 will get a power bump in 2011 or 12 to remain a "premium" offering.

I have noticed that the Golf is aimed at well kids. And that Audi's are for more manly men. I mean look at the plaid interior of the GTI. It's a completely different class. Now it was made compete with the MazdaSpeed 3 which has the same spec 265hp turbo etc. But mazda sucks so the GTI R already won and it hasn't even hit the road yet
