I just hope they stay tight now. I have been having them re-tightened every 5k miles. This is the first time that I gave them the info from cabal_san's A-zine post with the part number and also the first time that any dealer has replaced any of the suspension bolts.

Loud clunk
I know exactly what noise you guys are talking about. I have a 57 plate A4 and i started to get that noise too. After giving it to 3 different mechanic's, it was infact not the control arms (well there was abit of play in the lower arms joint), bit it was infact the brake pads. When you drive, the brake pads grip the brake disk to a different way when they do in reverse. As a result, the pads were moving when the brakes were being applied in reverse, hence the noise. Simple test you could do is see if there is an excessive about of a LIP on your brake disks. Hopefully this helps.
