Default MMI Jukebox Hard Drive Upgrade

Anybody know anything about the hard drive in the MMI Jukebox? I think it's a great feature, but 10GB is simply pathetic. I'm interested in finding a way to upgrade it.

I read in the owners manual that there is apparently a limit on the number of songs that can be stored on the jukebox, so it may not be helpful to put a 1TB drive in the car, but with MP3 bitrates as high as they are I can only fit about 1,000 songs on the jukebox when its limit is like 4,000. Seems like a 40 or 50 GB drive is justified.

The HDD uses a proprietary OS. I have not heard of anyone upgrading

Would it be as easy as copying one hard drive to the other?
I guess you would need to find out if the system is identified with that particular hard drive

I suppose you are right about the iPod. It just bothers me that the Jukebox is a 'feature' but it's basically crippled by the small size of the drive.

Does anybody know where the jukebox drive is located in the car?

My Nav-MMI has a 40 GB drive, 30 for Nav and 10 GB for Jukebox.

I more often use my iPod or 32 GB SDHC (system capable of dual 64 GB).

while the jukebox is nice i think its a pain if you ever want to add or change your music. the SD card slots are nice too each one will go up to 32 gigs.

10Gb is more than enough for me as I have an iPod classic in there and nothing in the Jukebox.

I've love someone to get to grips with the hard drive so that speed/safety cameras etc could be added to the POI's. People have tried but it seems it's not an easy job.

I'm willing to give this a shot. Even with a proprietary OS, you should be able to use dd to copy to a new hard drive and then expand the usable space with a larger drive.

Does anyone (spijun?) have instructions on how to remove the hard drive?

I can't vouch for it, but I've read in the past of someone successfully upgrading to a larger drive, but the system is hard coded to only allocate 10GB to the jukebox, so the extra space is unusable.
