I had a similar concern, on my 2 month old Avant, as I was bumping my head on the lift gate... it just wasn't open 100%. The dealer helped me reprogram it. We first opened it (fully, with a bit of a manual push to get it to the full open height), then pressed and held the lift gate switch for ~5 seconds until the tail lights flashed... so now it opens 100% when the lift gate is activated (button or key fob). No more head bumping

What, specifically, is the method to close the hatch with the remote? I can't get it to do that no matter if I press the trunk button twice, hold it, nothing. I read the manual three times and I can't find anything.

That's coz you can't. It would be dangerous to close it from a distance.

You just hit the button on the tailgate.
