So I get in my '12 A4 Avant today and any MP3s I try to play (Jukebox, SD card, iPod) are all "sputtery" or "static-y" sounding, with tons of tiny little pops, like the DAC is confused or something.

Doesn't happen on FM or Sirius, just listening to MP3s.

Anybody else have this happen / know how to fix it?

False alarm...next time I turned on the car it was fine / been fine since then.

I had a similar issue a couple of weeks ago, but it was happening to my radio as well as my ipod. Upon restarting the car a few hours later, it was fine, only to return again. After intermittent issues for a couple of days, it resolved on its own.

B&O? Could it be a loose fiber optic connection?

I haven´t checked if it is the same on our model, but Rosstech (VCDS) lists a setting in Radio module (channel 96):

Channel 096: Optical Performance
The optical performance of the MOST bus can be adapted/reduced for fault finding.
0 = Normal Performance
3 = Reduced Performance (-3 dB)
