Default nav worth it?

don't know much about nav systems but seems like 2500 for a dvd based nav might not be worth it when you can pick up for 500

anyone love it/hate it? other.

thnx

Ya not worth it too me, I have Nav on my phone which works very well (TomTom) just buy a nice dock for $70.

It really is a rip off at $2500, I'm sure the cost to "add it on" to the A4 is $250 for the GPS reciver, if that.

If it's already on a car you like then I'd be fine with buying it. With NAV comes the back-up camera and a few other niceties. As infrequently as I use my portable NAV unit, I'd rarely use the integrated version.

....only you can decide if it is worth the price but consider these things:

A built in nav is far less likely to be stolen than a Garmin or TomTom
It comes with a backup camera that also aids in parallel parking
Only OE VAG nav units have a secondary display in the instrument cluster that shows next turn directions.

I'd always buy a nav with a VAG product because of the next turn directions - but that's me...

Plus, the stereo supposedly has slightly better audio quality due to something digitial-something-cable-something-or-other.

A portable NAV unit is more likely to get stolen only if you leave it in the car.

Default Also, Nav provides the following not available with a portable Nav unit:

- Nav moves all of the MMI controls to the console instead of the dash for easier access.
- Nav provides full digital audio processing (MOST) which provides for the best in sound reproduction, especially if you have the the B&O system; MOST has modular components (vs. in the radio) which may allow for additional hardware upgrades (video?)
- Integrated Voice Control
- Integrated with car's Directory
- Integrated with DIS (Digital Info Display screen) as previously mentioned for turn by turn, etc.
- Integrates with your phone to automatically reduce radio/iPod/CD volume when giving spoken directions
- Larger, full color screen than any of the available portable Nav units

Default Definitely worth it if you will use it alot

After using one for the last four years in my current A4, I would not buy another one without it. I use it atleast 3 times a week. Half the time I use it I know how to get home, I just like how the unit will tell you what time you will get there.

If the unit is in your house, the unit won't get stolen out of your car.

I found a great mounting spot not on the windshield. I'll go snap a pic right now. Hold please...

In the upper left corner of the MMI display is a flat, smooth area just big enough for the Nuvi mounting base. The monitor sticks forward enough to clear the dash, and from my driving position neither the Nuvi screen nor the MMI screen are obscured.
