new problem with iPhone 4

(This problem started a few weeks AFTER I upgraded my iPhone 4 to the newest iOS, which is 5.1--so I don't think the problem is iOS).
I have a 2010 A4 with nav, the B&O radio upgrade, and the iPhone connection in the glovebox.
Until a few weeks ago, when I plugged in the phone, pushed the MEDIA button, and chose the iPhone as my source, the Audi's audio system would read "loading" and would then start playing the first song in the iphone's file system, while displaying a list of the titles of the tunes.
But now, the Audi system is silent. The nav/radio screen shows the names of the song folders on my iphone, but all of the song titles are listed as "unknown tune." The Audi radio progressively goes down through the songs, changing every few second, but nothing plays.
The only way to fix this problem is to disconnect the iPhone. I notice a little PLAY icon (the right-pointing triangle) in the top line of the phone, but no sound is coming from the phone. So I start a song playing on the phone, and I hear it, then I reconnect the phone to the car. And NOW the Audi audio system does what it normally does--starts playing the first song in the phone's file system.
Has anyone else had this happen, or do you know how to correct it?
