Default No (no) CD options?

From what I can tell one either needs to get the standard stereo or the in-dash CD changer in the middle of the center console. Since I'm getting NAV and the iPod connector it would necessitate the CD changer with the requisite packages. I haven't bought a CD in 5+ years and have gotten along just fine without a CD player in my car for almost as long. I'd rather the changer wasn't there at all.

So my questions to those in the know is this - is the in-dash CD changer a standard car stereo slot size and, if so, does anyone know if someone makes an extra storage slot that could go in its place? I'd rather have another place to toss my phone or wallet than the CD changer... much more useful for me.

Thanks!

I think Audi still had cassette players until around 2002. :-)

Default It's very integrated into the dash and there's not a readily apparent way to remove part of it.

The changer is integrated into the head unit. Buried in the dash somewhere behind the fascia there's probably a double din sized "box" that contains the guts of the stereo. But with a NAV system a lot of the guts of the system become decentralized. The days of being able to swap out a head unit are loooooooong gone for Audi.

Default My 2006 A4 has a cassette player

My wife has tons of cassettes and really like that. But I told her the new 2009 will not have one. That is progress.

Thanks for the replies. One more question then - if I don't get Drive Select are there any buttons on the entire section of the CD changer that I'll need? I'm thinking it wouldn't be too hard to just take out that whole section below the vents and above the climate controls and have something custom made.

Thanks!

Try 2007. Symphony II+ (the one without the tape deck) came out that model year.
