Noise from front differential?
My 2010 A5 (maual transmission) started making very disturbing whirrling & whiny noise.
Here is the video of the problem. You can skip to 1:00 to hear the noise.
It is indenpendent of engine speed or transmission. It makes same sound whether the clutch is in or out. It comes on around 30mph and becomes very noticeable when coasting to stop always the worst near 30mph mark. Once the car warms up, the noise disappears. The temperature in Chicago has been around 20 degrees lately.
My first guess is some sort of problem with the differential or tranmission oil being too viscous because of the cold weather.
My second guess is bad bearing in the quattro differential.
Has anyone had a simialar problem with their A4 or A5?

I have a 2013 A4 8 Speed and the same sound that I noticed. Im in Upstate NY and I believe it is the cold. It only does it until the engine is fully warm. I think it might actually be the turbo interacting with the cold air. Just a thought

My best guess is the drive shaft support bearing. I had the exact same noise on my car at 75-80 km/h. Check my movie here:
After the replaced the complete drive shaft including the bearing the noise is gone. Apparently they have had this issue on some A4 and Q5 quattro models but it's rare...
