People do foolish things for, so-called, "aesthetic reasons" all the time. That doesn't mean that Audi should make doing something foolish (and illegal in some jurisdictions) automated.
If someone just has to run their fog lights simply for aesthetics when there are no environmental reasons present to run them, then it's not too much to ask that they have to push one single button to do so.

All this hubbub about fog lights--I was merely making an observation...
I like to have the fog lights on because they do improve near distance illumination, and my neighborhood is poorly lit at night, if at all in some places....sheesh...
I was merely indicating a difference between what I was used to (Japanese style where the fog light is a physical switch on the light stalk) and the Audi system where the fog light is an electronic switch.....

Read the link above. While it may seem great, it makes you focus too close on objects that you wouldn't be able to avoid anyways.

From the referenced link:
This is how I used my fog lights with my '97 A4, which suffered from the above problem. With the much better headlights on my A5 I have not found the need for them.
It is interesting that the article also states "Xenon or HID bulbs are inherently unsuitable for use in fog lamps, and blue or other-colored lights are also the wrong choice." The replacement of the stock bulbs with one of these choices is an oft-seen mod on these forums.
US-DOT headlamps have historically tended to provide relatively low, arguably inadequate levels of light in the foreground and to the sides. Many US DOT headlamps have what seems to be a "black hole" in front of the car, with essentially the entire beam concentrated in a narrow band or ball of light thrown into the distance. With headlamps like these, a decent argument can be made for the use of fog lamps to fill the "black hole", that is, to add-back the missing foreground and lateral-spread light when driving at moderate speeds on dark and/or twisty roads. Of course, lamps to rectify inadequate foreground light must be thoughtfully and carefully selected, correctly aimed and properly used. Otherwise, they're useless at best and dangerous at worst.
