Default Offset question with new rims

I'll make this short, planning for new rims in the summer. I was looking for 20"

Question, I currently have an 2010 A4 SLine. I find the wheel offset a little "in". I was looking to kick the wheels out 10mm or even 15mm if I can get away with it with no rubbing.

Since i'm going to be getting new summer rims, I wanted to figure out...
desired offset = existing offset + 10\15... what's existing offset? (Stock 2010 A4 Sline wheels (the 19" RS4 rims for reference)) All this so I don't need to add spacers.

Ideas\Comments\Suggestions?

Reference I'm looking for a tight look like The Audi TT on the main page here.

It's pic #3.

Your stock 19s are 19x8.5 ET43 with 255/35/19 tires.

If you stick with 8.5" wide wheels and 255mm wide tires, you can just focus on the changes in offset... ET35 would be 8mm less sunken in for instance. If you go to a 9" wide wheel, figure that brings the surface of the wheel out by 6.35mm, so a 9" wide wheel with ET41 would be about the same look as the 8.5" wide wheel with ET35.

With the 255 tires, you may not be able to go much further out before you start rubbing... but then I tend to play it safe.

Oh great! Thanks for the breakdown!

I think some people have pulled off 9" with no rubbing. The stasis guys have 9" wheels in 20s.

Slightly confused here. Couple more questions...

- From 8.5" to 9" there is 0.5" of difference. (or 12mm ~ 0.5")
- Are ETxx in mm? (assuming it is)
- Where is this added? Inside of the wheel? or both sides? (assuming both sides)
- The ET is from the middle correct? (assuming yes)
- Taking for granted that it's semetrical, an ET41 8.5" vs 9" (12mm+ of difference overall) would need an ET35 to have the same profile as the 8.5" ET41. Since we are only trimming 6mm from one side.
- Therefore if I would want a 9" wheel 10mm "out" more then the 8.5" ET41. I need to account for a) the 6mm it would add on the side facing the outside of car. (6mm + 6mm = 12mm ~= 0.5") Then I would need an offset of 4mm more to create my overall 10mm offset. Which puts me at a 9" wheel ET45 (ET41 + 4mm + the 6mm the 9" wheel already creates?)?

Sorry trying to learn here! :P
