If you insert it too far, it will curve back upwards off the bottom of the pan.
But how does that alow to take out more oil than just by draining? The drain opening is at the lowest level of the pan so that everything flows towards it. Unless there are pockets were the oil gets trapped and that can be gotten to by the extractor, I still don't see how you get more oil out with an extractor.

The drain plug is not at the very bottom of the 2.0TFSI engine. It's off to the side at the bottom. It's not like the 3.2 that have the drain on the very bottom. I just checked a 2.0TFSI chain drive engine now and look on the inside of the oil pan. The drain plug threading is about 9-11mm from the very bottom of the flat section of the pan. With the extractor, once the tub touches the bottom of the pan, if you insert it a bit more, it will move towards the drain plug area at the lowest section of the pan. For some, if its easier to pull the plug, no problem, just make sure you replace the drain plug and torque it. If the pan gets stripped and the oil plug was re-used, Audi will not cover the repairs.

That's a nice unit, especially as it appears you can use the secondary system to pump in fluids such as transmission/differential oil?
