Dang you put 3 quarts in?! Yeah if your digital gauage in the MMI is working properly you should have only been 1 quart low. The guage only reads the top quart of oil. When you add oil if you have the engine OFF and MMI ON you should be able to see it slowly moving up. I added a quart to mine a couple hundred miles ago at 2200 miles when it told me to. I added it and its better now. Our engines burn a lot of oil. If you search the forum on 'oil burning' in our 2.0T's you can find more info - it has been talked about a lot and there are many different cases. Some people burn a lot some don't burn any. Don't add any more oil!!!! Good luck.

One more thing. You can buy a dipstick from ECS Tuning online for like $20 so that you won't have to guess if your MMI Oil Guage is working properly. Might want to buy one after you figure everything out for peace of mind in the future.

Thanks to everyone for responding. I didn't realize that only the top quart was showing on the bar graph, so I panicked, thinking that I was almost completely out of oil. I did take the car in to have in checked out. The problem was a "shorted out hood latch." They replaced it, drained much of the oil I added, and the car is good to go. It is very strange that a hood latch would impact the oil reading. Because this is my first Audi, I guess I have a lot to learn.

Also, I asked the service manager about buying a dipstick. He told me that it would cost something outrageous like $300-400. What is up with that? Needless to say, I passed.

You know, the Audi dipstick for the 2.0 Turbo is available for around $20 from Audi. I ordered mine the day I took delivery of my 2011 A4, and it arrived a few days later. The Audi dealer mailed it to my house. There's a spherical cap on top of the dipstick tube (protruding up in front of the engine) you remove, stick the new dipstick into the tube, and you're done. I use the dipstick to verify the MMI readings, periodically. But the MMI has proven to be accurate on my car.

ECS Tuning has a video on the website on how to install the oil dipstick on a B8 S4 3.0T, of course it is a similar procedure on the A4 2.0T.
