are you sure it's not the 1.8T Quattro in Europe? so why is there no fear of eating into A4 3.2Q sales with the A3 Quattro 3.2 sold in the States?

In DE you can purchase the 2.0 TDI in Quattro in both 3 & 5 door.
So, the Quattro drive train is in place for the 2.0T and TDI in other parts of the world. Why not here? Yes, AoA is afraid that the A3 2.0T Quattro would outsell the A4 2.0T Quattro here in America. They're absolutely correct this time.

I don't know? There's been this belief for many years among the European car companies (well really all car companies) that Americans want sedan's (trunks/boots) and won't buy 3 or 5 doors especially from a luxury brand. I'm sure they have the sales analysis to prove this with slow selling hatches, 5 doors and wagons in America in the past.
I'm not convinced that Audi would really be concerned about the A3 hatch stealing sales from the A4 just because of the quattro addition though the DSG w/Quattro could make it a tough decision for some. I have to believe this is more about limited expected sales benefit of the A3Q against the addl cost to certify, market, etc. Who knows, it may just be lack of available capacity on that particular production line to meet the addl US demand?

More about price point, then about the car itself. Agree the 3 door wouldn't steal sales from the A4, except maybe the S3. The 5 door, which most people consider a small wagon, would steal sales, especially from the B8 A4 which we'll see move up market a bit more than the current B7 A4.
Also, with the new A1 coming, and from what I'm hearing, AWD to differentiate itself from its' competition, makes it all that more important to have a 2.0T Quattro, for a move up vehicle. Don't want to loose a first time Audi owner(A1) to the competition because there's no progression AWD vehicle for them to move up to.
