Check the pressure in your tires too....my consumption took an asskicking with the changes in temperature in the past few weeks. I normally only checked every month.....now it's every week.

On my '11 with a manual 6spd I am getting 21.5 mpg with an 8 mile communte to work, and that's a month old car with less than 1000 miles. I think one thing that makes it seem like it is getting worse milage is I have to fill up once a week, where in my acadia or 99 A4(I think it had a larger tank) it would be every two weeks.

I realize my commute is not ideal for decent gas mileage, but it's still a lot less then I had hoped prompting me to ask why it's so terrible. I bought the car last Oct., so I haven't had the car in summer. I usually do open my windows when it's warm, but that's irrelevant with this comparison. I just know my '08 gets much better mileage by about 40-50 miles per tank with the same commute.

You're right. I haven't checked in a while. I'm always yelling at my Mom and husband to check their tires too

Overall I'm pleased with consumption but I do a lot of highway driving on my daily commute. City consumption isn't so hot. I've heard some people claim that consumption gets better over time (15k-20k miles); we'll see.
I have about 30,000 k on my Quattro. I am about 85% highway and see my instant range from 26-36. My total tank mpg is about 25.5 but when I just filled up my calculation was about 22.5. It got only 325 on that trip and was only to the first red line. I feel like I should be seeing much better results with what my instant mpg gauge says.

Air, welcome aboard!

The fuel read out info is somewhat optimistic. Probably off by 10%. It can be "calibrated" with VCDS but you need to have regular tracking history so you can validate your tweaking.

My '11 4 cylinder car is off by about 8%.

I am going to measure this tank also and see if it's any better. My first tank I got 385 and put in 14.5 gallons, 90% highway. I also notice that the pedal is very touchy, the slightest bit of release of the pedal will drastically change the instant mpg.

True on any car.

Sometimes it help "train" the driver on their technique should fuel economy be a primary concern.
