Does anyone know of a way to manually dim the rear view mirror through VCDS, or hidden menu? I'm planning on putting on window tint and am concerned that the mirror will not dim when the IR is blocked. If I can manually set it to be dimmed, I could just use the off button to un-dim it.

My understanding is auto dimming is not strictly on or off - its variable based on how much light reaches the sensor. After tint is installed it will block some of the light reaching the sensor (and your eyes) so it won't dim as much, but the net brightness in the rear-view mirror will be the same as before the tint.
There could be some exceptions here if you have a tint that is not neutral in color installed.

I was under the impression though that the dimming sensor actually used IR light, not visible light. Most good tints will block 99% of IR, to reduce heat gain. I know on my A8, it does not seem to dim as much since I put tint on. I find myself popping up the rear sunscreen at night.
