This morning my voice command button had about a 90 second lag (literally). I had to reboot my MMI to fix it. Well I guess that is the way of the future, I need to reboot my computer, my phone, and now my car...

This lag (2GMMI) on the voice commands is typical.
At the same time, I notice that the "call logs" on the phone also take about 1-2 minutes to repopulate when I start the car.
My voice button will not beep, awaiting my dulcet tones, right away after I start the car.
This was the case on my 2005 A6 (also 2G) and now on my 2009 -- I just assumed it was kind of like the delay when my PC goes to sleep and then I touch a key or wiggle the mouse -- it takes a while for the "PC" or the PC in the MMI to wake up.
I dunno about a reboot, cause I assumed that every morning when I get in the car, I automatically reboot (although for the screen to come up is usually less than 10 seconds, just not so the voice command.)
Sometimes, too, I have to await the radio to update the station list (I mainly listen to Sirius, since I have a lifetime subscription to it and am frankly, hooked on it.)
To me, after 42 months with an '05 A6 and 17 months with an '09 A4, both with 2GMMI, voice, nav, bluetooth, etc, this "delay while I load up my memory with the voice, phone book etc," is normal.

I never have to wait for the phone to synch.
The car remembers the phone and all the numbers and hence when it sees the phone again it makes all the numbers available immedialtely from it's memory. If there are any changes then it can take a few minutes for them to appear.
It does take a min or two (no longer) to synch the missed/last/made call lists but that's no issue at all.
Perhaps you have a problem or maybe it's your model of phone takes longer than my boring and old fashioned (and company supplied) Nokia 6300.

Restarting the MMI system (Reset)
You can restart the MMI system and restore full normal
operation by pressing a combination of buttons.
