S4 offers a lot more bang for $ vs 2.0T Prestige

I just priced a Prestige with Sport and ADS. The price is in the S4 territory. Might as well just get the S4 and it can run circles around the 2.0T. Even a "stripper" S4 is very well equipped.

Here's one on the lot in KC - go for it. My 2.0T Prestige (that's on order) with Tiptronic, 19" Sports Pack, Drivers Assist and Shades is $13,151 less!

This is apples to oranges. Comparably equipped S4 is over 12K more. Base S4 better compares with premium plus + sports package.

Yeah - except for the engine and the DSG tranny - it is impossible to be apples to apples when comparing S4 vs A4 (any trim level). I agree with tubi. A lot of the stuff you get with Prestige is fluff. If you are really into a car as a machine and something you drive (rather than a techno comfy cradle) very little trumps engine, transmission and suspension IMHO

Now hold on there. . . . The S4 P+ should be compared to an A4 P+ with the sport package (not SLine) configuration. The Prestige version of the A4, for MY tastes, has features, functions, options (available) that I would not want to give up even for the wonderful S4 motor. If I wanted the most affordable performance AND the SPORT/LUXURY that I (to name one) insist upon, I would want the Prestige A4 2.0T with either SLine OR at least the 19" sport package and ADS and the Audi "custom" leather interior upgrade to magma red (I think that is what it is called.) The car would come in at $50K; then for an additional $650, I could have it APR tuned.
Would it be an S4? Of course not. But it would have the lux and most of the sport albeit with lower performance.
For me, apples to apples, the S4 of my dreams would be north of $57K, some $8000+ more than my Prestige A4 (2009) with several choice options that cranked it to ~$49+K. If I went THAT far, I would probably add the sport diff and pay the upcharge for the 7spd DSG.
So, I will live happily, for now, with my 2.0T Prestige with almost all the option boxes ticked off -- in reasonable sport without skimping on the luxury toys.

When I priced an S4 loaded with roughly the same equipment as my A4 it came to over 60K (which is about 5K more than the base M3, BTW). So effectively you are paying about 12K for just the engine, exhaust and some trim upgrades. I am not saying it's not fair but it's not exactly cheap either.
