Default The Shakes

I had a opportunity to stretch the legs on my 09 A4 2.0T. Got up to about 80 and wow it started to shake like something was not good. Got home and searched for the shakes. Will the dealer change the lower control arms which cause this problem if I go to them and explain the problem? Is it covered by warrenty?

I had the control arms on my '09 A4 replaced way back when, but the symptoms were a slight vibration felt thru the steering wheel between 50-70mph which went away at higher speeds (70+)...wouldn't say the car was "shaking" though. Sounds like you might have an issue other than control arms...

Don't forget to check the tires. My Dunlop tires were out of round with tread seperation.

Did you buy the '09 new and are hitting 80 mph for the first time? If you are the original owner, and are you just now experiencing this, it would have manifested itself a long time ago if it were control arm bushings.
In any case, as Audi40 wrote, shaking was not a symptom of the control arm issue - it was a high speed, 70 mph +/- shimmying felt in the steering wheel.

It is likely something else; drive train, ball joints, a suddenly defective tire, etc. Have the dealer check it out.

Thanks for the info.
The car is new to me with 30k miles on it. The vibration was felt through the steering wheel. The stock rims look like they have hit a curb or 2 but the tires look pretty good. Ill have to test it out again this week and get a more accurate description. Possibly even put my snow tires on early to see if it is actually the tires.

Thanks again!
