silver dash replacement options
#11
oddly enough, I just picked up my Prestige with Nav and my MMI screen area is black. like the second picture. Regardless, I'll be replacing it. The plastic just looks and feels cheap. I don't understand why they couldn't make it match the rest of the int trim.

But have you seen any replacement parts? I think brushed aluminum or matching wood trim (if you opt for the optional wood trim) would look nice. So will piano black. I've seen cars with beige interiors and that silver trim piece just does not go well with the brown dash even if the car has the almond wood trim elsewhere. It's less of a problem with gray and black interiors.

The differences most desired by me are the chrome trim separating the main surround from the part outlined in green, and the fact that the area in green is black vs. the same kind of cheap looking silver as the rest of the surround piece.

It is on my '09 A4 3.2 Prestige with 2G Nav
I understand that the silver colored plastic bothers some folks but on mine it isn't bad at all. I might have a different opinion if those areas were all silver and/or I had the ebony interior which I believe makes it stand out even more.
On my Cardamom beige with ash almond wood it blends fine and I never give it a second thought. (especially given the amount of chrome accents on everything in the B8)
Even on other cars, it looks far worse in pictures than it does in real life.

^ same with me, but i DO have the black interior. Never bothered me, nor do i have any scratches like many were complaining of. To me i think the silver, although not real aluminum, is the best for that area to match with my other aluminum trim. Painting it black, or wrapping it in carbon fiber would darken it up too much IMO. I sat in an s4 a few weeks ago at the dealer which had a black headliner and i couldn't even stand that... just made things too dark and closed in.
