Smart key not working
Strange thing happened today, when I grabbed the door handle it did not unlock automatically (tried many times, being very deliberate). Pressing the unlock button on the key worked, as well as when I pushed the start engine button. Later on after I got the car washed it started working again.
Could it be that dirt or road salt blocks the sensor? Has anyone else experienced this?
(car was dirty, but not ridiculous filthy)

It turned out to be a faulty switch on one of the handles that caused the whole system to not work....

Just tried it and it's not working again. Car is spotless right now, so definitely not dirt related. Going to have it checked out this week.

I had this problem as well but worse. My handle never registered me at all on the drivers side but the other handles did. Brought it to the dealer and told me the whole handle needed to be replaced. Of course it was all free and installed less then 2 hrs. Side note might acted the same way as yours until it totally stopped working. Defiantly go to the dealer and tell them to check everything.

My fault codes are against the passenger door handle. However, it does stop all the handles from registering. So, it looks like a fault on a single handle sensing unit disables all the handles.
The only one that worked was the trunk unlock....
John.

I have an issue with the rear door (driver side). The little button\sensor to lock works "when it wants". Seems to make the whole system hiccup from time to time, including door sensors when you touch them to unlock the car. I noticed it gets worse on high humidity cold days. I'm going to check it with VAGCOM soon.
