Default Snowflake icon on temperature gauge?

First time I've driven the car in cold temps today. The snowflake icon came on in the temperature gauge at 38 degrees F. There was some moisture coming down and then when it was at 32 we hit snow. Once we came through a tunnel the snow stopped and the temperature shot up. The icon went away. So I am trying to figure out if the snowflake senses moisture/ice/snow or if it is always there at low temps as a kind of warning.
Thanks.

The snow flake comes on between +5 and -5 Centigrade and whatever the equivalent is in Farenheight.

It means: "be careful because at this temperature range, there could be a mix of ice and water on the road and it could be more slippery"

Do you know if this applies to all trim levels?

THe icing condition is possible at +4C, therefore, the Snowflake shoudl come on at 38F. Nothing to do with the moisture, just the temp

I haven't been in any cold spots yet in my new A4, but in my previous 2 Audis - dating back 10 years - the snowflake signal comes on at 40 degrees F regardless of the moisture.

So it goes under at -5 Centigrade?

I meant to say: "So it goes away under -5 Centigrade?"

My apologies.

My apologies.
My manual states the snowflake symbol appears at temperatures below 5°C/41°F, so I would say no, it does not go away at less than -5°C.
