Default Solutions for Portable GPS Unit?

This was discussed some time ago, but I thought it might be worthwhile to bring the subject up again to see if anyone has found a solution for mounting a portable GPS (e.g. Garmin 765T)in the B8 that I could consider when my 2010 arrives in a couple of weeks as scheduled (or, if AofC is correct, in a couple of months!). I don't like the suction cup on the windshield approach or the bean bag on the dash. In my 2006 A4, I used a mount designed by ProClip specifically for the car that attached to the right hand side of the center stack. It worked just fine and came off easily at lease end, but it was a little clunky in appearance. Here's a link to the ProClip mount for the B8: http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionpa...p_leftorright= Has anyone installed this mount and, if so, is it satisfactory? Would a 4.3" screen GPS unit fit resting in the ash tray and under the console, secured by velcro or a big slab of silver duct tape (just kidding)? Other ideas?

Maybe it'll fit like this Garmin:

I"m waiting for the TomTom iPhone. Hopefully the suction cup will be small enough to fit like above.

Do you have a "mounting disk" under the suction cup or does it grip right to the MMI trim? I attach my Garmin using a mounting disk on the flat ledge under the right side of the MMI so as not to obstruct my view of the MMI.

No mounting disc. It's straight suction cup.

It obscures only a tiny portion of the MMI unless I lean over a skosh. Besides, I'd rather have the GPS screen more directly in front of me (for glancing at the map) than further to the passenger side.

Toecutter's idea is brilliant. It fits perfectly and obstructs the MMI a bit (left 1/3 in my case) unless I move my head but what's good to see on the left 1/3 of the MMI while driving? not much.. I can live without the song names when I've got the GPS installed. The visibility of the "tiny" Garmin 260 I use (3.5" screen I think) in this location is AWESOME which more than compensates for the MMI reduced visibility. That solution is way better than paying 3k for nav!
