uberwgn, thanks! I was just at Autozone and I checked all the Mobil1's to see which was compliant, but I didn't check Castrol.

I grabbed 5 - Mobil1 0W40, and 15 - Castrol Syntec 5W40.
(Same price for both brands, 5qts - $30 + filter)

79K miles on the car... starting to get worried about this oil burning issue. I'm calling the dealership tomorrow.


I know several people have mentioned Walmart carrying the 0w40 and 5w40, but I haven't seen it there. I've looked for it at 3 different stores.

Use walmart.com to find which store near you stocks the Mobil 1 0W-40. This Mobil 1 has roughly 50% more of the additive that allows extended oil changes. Other Mobil 1 products do not have that, so be careful to find the VW 502 on the container.

We are running Fuchs 5w40 in all turbo and 2003 and new NA engines at the shop. 10W40 Mobil 1 High Mileage Engine oil on older and over 150K mileage vehicles with great success. I highly recommend a German MANN or OEM oil filter. The cheap walmart filters fail apart after 5k miles. We have pictures of used filters side by side on our facebook page.

4ringking, thank you. I've been getting the 5pack of Mann filters from ECS tuning. As far as I know, they've been holding up well.
