Default Test driving S4 & 335 today

My two boys are starting to outgrow my TT. I love the TT and would like to hang on to it for a few more years, but will ultimately need to upgrade to something that carries more than one other adult. I test drove the S5 when it came out and fell in love with it. Unfortunately, the back seat is not much bigger than the TT. Naturally I started trying to dig up information on the B8 S4. While searching, I discovered the various posts regarding the lease pricing on the 335.

I'm going out test driving today to get the feel for the B7 S4 against the 335, and also to feel the V8 in the B7. I'm also going to look at the 535 for comparison against all cars mentioned as well as the A6. I'd really like to stay in the Audi family, but am really tempted by the BMW numbers (plus the potential to use the end of the year to my advantage). I've been reading the B8 A4 and B7 S4 forums for a month or so now looking for information regarding how long the wait for the B8 S4 will be and have seen several posts that indicate that there are more people like myself that are tempted by numbers and the (expected) long wait. I'm posting this on both forums in hopes of soliciting a few opinions or more information. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I'll post back once I've had a chance to feel things out. I'm taking a long time BMW fan with me who I've just turned on to the A4. Should be an interesting day!

Default Which aspect?

Current ads offer $459/mo with 2,500 down for stock 335. Throw in a few options and I expect to be working with someting around $525/mo. From there, the negotiations begin. I haven't contactd Audi Financial yet, but I'm pretty comfortable stating that I won't be able to beat those numbers on a new S4.

Does this sound correct?

Default You can do multiple security deposits with BMWFS to lower your MF

I put up the maximum of 7 extra deposits and lowered my MF from 0.00205 to 0.00156 (each SD reduces MF by 0.00007). The amount of SD is determined by your monthly payment including use tax rounded up to the nearest $50 increment. In my case, my monthly payment came out to $476.41 so my SD was $500. I put up a total of 4 grand ($500 SD required for non-current BMWFS customers plus 7 more). I did the math and it saved me $35/month which is more than my $3500 could earn in a safe investment.

BMWFS also apparently allows you to buy additional miles at a discount at midway point of your lease if you determine that you are on pace to exceed your mileage allowance.

Default Thank You!

That helps quite a bit. I've heard a few references to the multiple deposits logic, but was going to ask for more info at the dealer. Thanks for the ammo!

Chassis tuning is awesome. Just absorbs everything but never feels soft. Love the look of the coupe. Love it.

Dislikes
-- felt less than awesome power wise. Seriously. I drive an allroad with a flashed 4.2 by apr that develops 353 hp. In sport or tip the thing is fast and feels fast. The 4.2 engine leaps from 3500 rpm to 5500rpm and in third gear it flies. Never felt that on either 335i. Floored it in 2nd and third a few times. Just not impressed. Nice, smooth power. Never impressive. Interior -- the car is small. Back seat is marginal imo. Sport seats were nice and snug -- I'm 5'10" and 155 lbs. If you're bigger than that, not sure you'll fit. Stereo a real step down from my bose -- not sure if I had the best BMW stereo in the one's I drove tho and I didnt have time to tweak the EQ. Lastly the interior illumination was maddening. Everything is orange -- the dial lights on the speedo and tach and the radio. All orange. Gave me a headache. Audi does this way better.

So my feeling was a little disappointment. I suspect the car is awesome on the track because the chassis tuning is near-perfect. If you dont track the car then maybe keep looking. All imho... hope it helps.
