It's unclear right now. Even if they don't cover it, I'm going to have it done. The problem is that if the extended warranty on the tensioner and timing chain only covers complete failure, it is effectively worthless because failure will cause catastrophic engine damage, which is only partially covered.

Things are happening with the class action suit. I got a long letter today on it describing the settlement.

If the car is approaching 100k miles is this something you can have replaced even if it is not showing any sign of failure and still get reimbursed?

No, not anymore. There have been many discussions of the settlement in the past few weeks, and the conclusion is that the timing system must fail, likely causing severe engine damage, for Audi to cover any costs.

Ugh. How. Does. That. Make.Sense.

So I can skip the carbon build up clean out? ...And wait for the tensioner to implode the engine?

Well, the terms that Audi is trying to sell is probably that. Don't forget the settlement is not yet final. Won't be till Nov.
But I'm not sure the likelihood of anything getting corrected at this stage in a class action. Never been in one that was worth anything.

The oil consumption class action actually did enable many people to have their engines fixed free of charge. OTOH, this settlement seems quite poor in comparison.

I did the chains/guides and both tensioners at 120,000 miles. Because the adaptation was at -5.95 or somewhere around there.
