1. Where is the setting in MMI that both the B6 and B7 had to set the initial sound volume when you turn the car on?
2. Is it actually true that unlocking all the doors *does not* unlock the rear hatch? I have to use the button on my door panel or the button on my fob. That's silly.

1. Mine remembers the volume setting when the car is turned off. There are other settings for different modes, i.e. audio vol during Nav announcements, etc. I believe this is in the "Sound" area. I'm pretty sure there's no setting for having the vol preset to a different level when turning the car on than what is was at turn off.
2. I have the sedan but I recall there is a setting in the "Car" area for central locking and unlocking the trunk at the same time. Not sure if the Avant hatch is addressed as well.

The "CAR" settings menu does control central locking options. You can specify whether all doors or just the driver's door unlock, and you do have a trunk lock/unlock option there as well.
My car also remembers the last volume setting for the sound system.

in my B6 and B7 I could tell it to reset the volume to a *lower* level when you start up the car. I.e., if you came home blasting the angry music, turn the car off and then innocent spouse takes keys and takes your car - she won't end up with bleeding ears because the volume wont be turned up to 11 when she starts it up. That's what I want back. It does a very good job of remembering what it was at last.

If your initial volume is already lower than that setting, it won't increase to that level when you start it up.
