*UPDATED: Just added overlay comparison from back edge of backseat (last image below)*

I wanted to know exactly how much space I was giving up with an A4 vs. a C6 A6 Avant, so I superimposed the orthographic views of each car in Photoshop. I tried to respect scale, so I'd say these comparisons are good up to +/- 1" or so. But you get the basic idea. Threw in an A3 for comparison too.

I created 5 different views:

1) Overlay nose-to-nose
2) Overlay tail-to-tail
3) Overlay from front axle
4) Overlay from driver position
5) Overlay from back edge of backseat

Black outline = B8 A4 Avant
Blue outline = A6 Avant
Pink outline = A3

The bright red numerals near each listed dimension are the differences in dimensions between the B8 and B7 A4 Avants (original drawings and figures are lifted from Audi's official media information).

Hope this helps somebody else. It helped me make up my mind.

They are to scale. I converted mm to inches, and scaled accordingly. It's close to +/- 1 inch.

The A3 has less headroom, and the steering wheel is further out, but most everything else looks the same (+/- 1" of course!)
