Had the dealer check at the 5k service. They admitted it shakes/shudders/vibrates at low speeds but claim "it's normal" and a result of "adaptive steering" (no drive
select). I asked them why it doesn't happen to the wife's B7 and all they would say is that it's a completely different system...

For me, the shake has actually gotten worse and occurs more often than when new. Basically, for me it occurs when you turn the steering wheel at a certain rate. At low speeds if you turn it slowly it doesn't shake, if you turn it moderately fast, it shakes. As well, it doesn't happen as much after the engine's warmed up. ie: it happens more often after I just start the car than when I'm turning into a parking space after a moderate drive.

Perhaps if enough of us wrote to Audi directly...

Yes, I noticed this as well. This usually seems to happen when I am pulling out of my driveway (not all the time but some of the time).

It never occurred to me that this was a problem until I saw this thread. I still don't feel that this is a problem, but what I do know is that this will bother the heck out of me from now on... Oh well...

As the OP, I have to say that it does vary oddly enough and is not always consistent. This past weekend I did quite a bit of driving and I hardly noticed it at all.

I honestly am only concerned if this can cause future problems or worse some type of issue when you're driving at higher speeds. From what I can tell the steering response is very sharp when driving and I haven't had any real problems yet.

Given the amount of people that seem to be experiencing this, I would chalk this up to a "normal" thing related to the new adaptive steering in the B8.

Here's an interesting but brief article on the new Audi Adaptive Steering that's on the 2009 A4 (wasn't on previous A4s like B7).

Ahhhhh...don't kill me. But I found a video from Audi that shows how it works. Videos are better than reading. Very cool and interesting stuff IMHO.
