Default Wheel Vibration and tire pressure.

My 2009 Prestige A4 had significant high speed steering wheel shimmy. I took the the A4 to the dealer and told them about the problem at the 5000 mile service and they balanced the tires. Apparently one of the tires was very unbalanced. I had a noticeable improvement but still I noted a vibration on the steering wheel at 65-75 mph. However, the posts on this website concerning tire pressure caused me check the pressure of my tires (cold pressure, morning in my garage). I was very surprised that the front tires were at 38 lbs/sq in and the rears were at 41 lbs pressure. I actually borrowed a second digital tire gauge to check these readings and they were correct. I adjusted my tire pressure as per the owners manual, then I went on a 400 mile trip. NO vibration! I have good road feel in the steering wheel, but no shimmy and no pulsating at any speed.

Thanks for sharing the information. Now we know we should check the tire pressure if we are experiencing vibiration of steering wheel.

I never saw a difference from 30 psi up to 38 psi.
