LULWUT....?

My buddy asked "Is this a V6?" when I took him for a ride.

On the other hand, if I had the money, I would've gone for the S4.

Not to mention, the m3 and c63 is twice the cost of the regular 3and C series. The S4 is comparable to these cars.

This thread is about the "A4" not the S4....

yea the m3 is a 3 series, but Its night and day over the other 3 series...lol
I am serious. Perhaps your original post was incorrect. You made no mention of cost being a factor. You simply said : "I'm in the market for a new car and the speed is the only reason I am probably not gonna buy the new A4."

If cost is an issue for you, then of course the S4 may be out of your league.

If the A4 is not fast enough for you then move on. Discussing it on an A4 forum won't make it any faster.

Oh : "how can you compare an A4 to the S4?" - How about because they are actually both from the A4 from line up. Do you think that the A4 is made on a production line and the S4 and silk gloved little pixies putting it together?

Whatever.

If you really can't sacrifice the power, wait a year or two and save up for an S4.

Essentially what I did and I couldn't be happier.

If you want speed but not spending too much, then why bother with A4. With that price point you could get something much faster like the G37, hack, even the 370Z which has a lower MSRP now. A4 is a friggin sedan, not a rocket.

I was in the same boat as the OP. On paper I ruled this car out until I decided to drive it. The auto was OK but the MT put a smile on my face and I was hooked. Turbo lag I was expecting so I wasn't too shocked. Compared to the B7 MT I drove it feels like a totally different car.
Is it the best bang for your buck, NO but if you get a descent optioned vehicle it is amazing.
Let's just say it made an impression on me and I ordered one almost three months ago.
Hopefully I pick it up Monday or Tuesday.

Drive before you scratch it off the list.

You will have all the speed you need with the A4 -- what you will NOT have, however, is the QUICKNESS you are looking for.

I'd wager that the A4 is not lacking speed, it is lacking quickness.

If this is a deal breaker, look at the S4.

If the S4 is a PRICE deal breaker, move over to the G37 AWD.

If you would really rather have the A4, then it is CHEAP, to upgrade the engine at an Audi Stasis dealer -- if you call a small four figure number cheap, that is.

If you want more grunt and are not terribly concerned about the warranty, just go to APR and get the chip for about $600.

Audis (and not just Audis) are a blend of many features, functions and traits -- the A4 2.0T is moderately quick, but it is not going to go to the top of the acceleration class, no way. The S4, well, that is a horse(power and torque) of a different color and I would urge you to test one of them -- actually they have come down in price since the last gen S4.

My second choice is the G37 -- at that price point. Hell, with a more modern engine, coming to the 2011 G37 so they say, it may well be the price and performance value prop of the decade.

If a bit more money would not be an issue (but, my A4 was $49k+) an S4 would be even better.

Where was I? Oh yea -- speed is HOW FAST it can go, quick is HOW SOON it gets from speed A to speed B. You want quickness.

The G37 is not faster than the A4, it is simply quicker.

I agree, the S4 is the top of the A4 range -- and if you will accept a premium plus S4 (lower content), it can be had for about the same as a Prestige A4 2.0T.

RS4, if it ever comes, would be that next big step up, the S4 is a small step up in the scheme of things.
