But in my response to Scotty, you'll see that the range is not great enough to act in the same manner of your parent's lexus. With the key 15 feet away in the foyer, my car is out of range of my key and secure.
Right, that's what supposedly happened to a a friend of a co-worker with a 2008 or so 335xi with the keyless entry. Was getting into his car for work, keys fell out of his pocket onto garage floor, forgot to put coat on. Got in car, started engine and drove off. 1.5 hr drive to work. Got there and car wouldn't lock or turn back on!!

Would suck if that happened and you were in the middle of nowhere or on a trip. I'm actually a gadget geek and love technology but sometimes nothing matches physical security (having to put a key into the ignition to start it).

The manual states 5' (or 1.5 meters) of a door or trunk lid.
Not far enough away to worry about someone jumping in your car without you being able to react.

Read my post... he would have to be standing there with the key in order for it to happen.

React? If someone were trying to jump in my car to drive off, my reaction would be to first call 911 and second called my insurance guy.

It's the high pressure water confusing the Advanced Key locks.

The same thing would happen on my 3.2 but I make sure I leave my key far enough away in the garage (once I've pulled my car out to wash) it that it doesn't happen to me.

Fortunately, I learned that lesson on my wife's Altima that also has a simliar keyless entry system. The first few times I washed it it drove me crazy until I figured it out.

So is this any different than if a guy jumps in your A4, points a gun and says get out, I'm jacking your car? I doubt having keyless entry will make a difference except that once he gets to where he's going and turns off the ignition, the car will not restart w/o the key so he's not going any further. Instead he'll likely strip it clean or beat the hell out of it. Or run away real fast.
Either way, you're prob screwed.
