Default Will the 2.0T engine get a hp increase for 2013 facelift?

It seems that with BMW's new 2.0 turbo engine putting up a healthy 240 hp, it's time for Audi to play catch-up, especially now that the 2.0T engine is also being offered on the more expensive A5 and A6. Any rumors about a modest 20-30 hp bump for the facelifted 2013 A4? I'd love to come back to Audi after my VW CC R-line CC lease is up with an A4 quattro 6MT. Something in the neighborhood of 230-240 hp provides a nice upgrade from my current car's 200 hp.

In theory, Audi should be doing this. The 2012 GTI R20 is going to put down something like 260 HP out of the VW version of the 2.0T when we get it next year. Audi should be embarassed if they can't match it with the AoA version of the 2.0T. Let's all be honest and admit this can probably be done with software tuning.

What I'm hoping for is that AoA does something like BMW is doing with the 335 cars; the 2012 versions of these cars get a 20 hp bump via engine tune. BMW is actually selling retrofit software upgrades to owners of older 335's for $500 to match the 20 hp bump. Audi would be foolish not to tap that kind of gold mine with their own products.

Actually the Golf R engine is a slightly detuned version of the 2.0T engine (larger K04 turbo) used in the Audi TT-S (down from 265 hp/258 lb-ft to 256 hp/243 lb-ft, presumably because the Golf R has less available engine cooling compared to the TT-S). I doubt they would put that engine in the A4 as a standard engine, but it seems like a modest factory tuning can bump up the 211 hp rating to a more respectable 230-240 hp range without switching to a larger turbocharger and adding extra lag.

I agree, they need to up the base numbers to stay competitive with the other Germans. Or they need a middle upgrade model to better align their position with the competition. There's too big of a gap between the low and high end (S4).

I have heard rumor of a de-tuned 3.0T, as well. I think 272 hp. regardless, the 2.0T is as of late one of the lowest rated huffer added 4 bangers out there. Audi needs to do something.

It still beats what MB is putting in the C250.

BTW, when the after market tuning is done to the current A4 engine, does it affect fuel efficiency? What about warranty?

mb's 1.8 is pretty weak for a freshened up c class.

If it's 3 more years for an all new a4, a little more juice would be nice. A retuned 3.0 doesn't make much sense, though. Its much more cost effective to just put the tts spec motor in the a4.

Even Hyundai & kia have 4 bangers with over 250 hp.

Perhaps they will re-introduce the V6.

A 250 HP 2.8 or a supercharged 2.8T would be interesting.

I believe the 210 HP 206 lb-ft version circa 2006 achieved something like 27 mpg.

7 years later and perhaps a new S-Tronic I think they should be able to push 30 mpg with the 2.8 V6. :-)

By then they will need to hit 40 mpg.
