I have always been tempted to do that, but a) I don't have OBD11, and b) I worry that that mod would distract me from paying attention to the road...

It's not really that distracting and its good to know what gear your in.

I didn't see this mentioned yet in this thread tho others have....is to try resetting your throttle map. Probably won't fix any of the downshifting to accelerate inherit with the dsg.

Just the other day I wasn't particularly liking how it was shifting between 3rd and 4th so I reset and seems to be cleared up/smoother.
Also will help with that start from a stop acceleration but you need to train it again.
