It has nothing to do with the CEL, which is a separate light above the MFA. However a DTM could trigger the cel to light up, mine never did.

Seems to have a lot to do with a CEL if a DTM can trigger the CEL to light up, and you had a soft code in the engine computer which also triggered a DTM. Every code in the engine computer has its own priority of which lights it triggers, and since engine codes can trigger DTM, it very much as to do with a CEL. On other cars without this buzzword on the digital display, it would otherwise just be a MIL being displayed.

The CEL did not illuminate.

I previously stated that.

That does not mean that there is not an engine code related to the DTM. Drivetrain malfunction does not mean, "everything but the engine".

Which is how I pulled the code, lol.

Again, Drivetrain Malfunction in the MFA came up. No CEL, but was able to pull overboost code that triggered DTM.

Don't recall, I'll have to pull VCDS logs off the laptop. Doubt I'm doing that. But it was an overboost in the description.

That's like asking, what was question 3 on your Social Studies test in 10th grade.

You can search these forums for “drive system malfunction”.
I replied to one of those, where my dealer repaired it at “no charge”.
Hope it goes well for you.

It could be any number of issues. A couple of months ago, I got the Drivetrain Malfunction light. If I accelerated briskly, the car just didn't have much power and made a loud noise. The first time it happened I thought there was a car with a loud muffler beside me but it was my car. If I accelerated slowly it didn't come on.

I took it to the shop and it was a loose hose that connected to the turbo. They fixed it quickly. No more issues.

I took into the dealer to get a diagnosis. They had another A4 in with the same warning popping up that turned out to be caused by rodents eating their wiring harness. Mine was the turbo wastegate. $5000 for a new turbo. Ouch.
