The engine cover just snaps on, a light tug at each corner and it pops off.
The dip stick stopper simply pulls out. Don't forget to put it back in or you will have a vacuum leak and eventually a check engine light.
The oil filter will drain if you unscrew it enough to break the oring seal. If there is not alread an index mark (green paint on mine) paint a line from the filter to the motor so you know when it is tight. I was able to tighten it by hand to the same position.
The oil filter is a cartridge that snaps into the housing. Since I was not able to verify the part number , I didn't change it this time. It looks like it can be changed without draining the oil.
Use an oil extractor to remove the 5.5 qts. If you don't have one, Google for many options. I use the Harbor Freight Pneumatic Oil Extractor

Will be driving from Edmonton to Spokane next week and will do an oil change when I return, thank you for the picture. I too do not plan to change the filter this time around, I only change the filter every two oil changes. Since my first service is covered by the dealer at no cost, I will let them change it.
May try to pick up a few goodies for my A4 while am in the States, that Harbor Freight oil extractor sure looks tempting.

In case not aware, you do need a relatively high volume compressor ( or accumulator tank) for that extractor. It takes less that 30 sec to reach max vacuum which is enough to evecuate the oil disconnected from the compressor.
I will be ordering an A4 for the MY2018. I have an A4 B8 and it is a joy to drive and rather easy to do routine maintenance such as oil changes. For the B9 I was surprised to see that Audi has gone back to an oil filter cartridge. In the B8 the oil filter was a complete unit. I wonder what is the reason to go back to a cartridge oil filter as was found in the A4 B7? When I order my new A4 I will also make sure I buy a Billet Aluminum Oil Filter Housing from ECS.
