Default Frustrating Map on MMI

Hi
I am trying to figure out how to stop scrolling the map on my 2017 A4 Nav screen. When i press the MMI **** while in Maps view, the touchpad on the **** allows me to scroll to any area on the map using the crosshair symbol. However how do i cancel out of that? If i press the **** down, it forces me to select the location where the crosshair symbol is currently placed with a "Set as Destination" command. The only option i have seen is to be forced to select the "Set as Destination" command and wait about 10 seconds for it to set up directions, and and then push the **** upwards to cancel destination? If i simply want to cancel out of scrolling the map and go back the the regular map, how can i do that?
Thank you.

Did you try the return button just above the wheel next to the menu button? In most MMI menus this backs you out one level from the current selection.

Yes that doesn't work either. Clicking the Return button simply takes you back the the map with the crosshair symbol still highlighted over the scrolled location. It doesn't return to the normal map view.

Try hitting the return button a second time. The other thing that works is to move the switch to "TEL" then back to "NAV."

Yes hitting the Return a second time does the trick. It's not the most intuitive setup, but works
Thanks a lot!

I agree it isn't intuitive, and for many issues won't resolve the problem. But it never gets you in trouble.
