Google Map Overlay

I was watching the following video (attached) and at 6:39 to 7:05 he states and attempts to show that the Google feed is a live satellite feed by showing the boat in the river and the Google map overlay (a collection of Google pictures pieced together). Is this true?
It was my understanding that it's just a Google overlay meaning if tore down my house today that tomorrow my house would still be in the Google map overlay until Google had another pass over my house and updated their maps (best example I could think of).

He is either mistaken or making a joke using subtle German humor. There is no detailed real-time satellite photography of the whole world.
The idea of live satellite images on Google Earth as a joke is old: There was April Fool's Day Prank about it in 2007.

He was joking. Funny guy, Wouter (who is Dutch, not German).
I did just read that his young daughter is very sick, so he hasn't been doing their most recent reviews. As opposed to too many journalists out there that say all Audis understeer, or are boring, or lack emotion etc etc, Wouter "gets" Audi. Wishing him and his family all the best.

Thanks guys. That's what I figured. It was just a coincidence that another boat was there at the same time he was driving. I do wonder how often Google updates various areas to take advantage of the street view and in general.

The Google Earth overlay is essentially the same static (not live) 2D overhead "satellite" view as you can see on Google maps on a computer. (It's not the same thing as the 3D Google Earth application). The satellite view photo tiles are updated periodically by Google and any changes will be reflected when the MMI downloads Earth (and when the hard drive local cache is refreshed). Updates will vary depending on location and available Google resources - in my area at least, it seems to be every year or so.

Yeah, no live feed. Google doesn't have access to the surveillance satellites, and they need to be positioned for a live feed. Nice review, though. He got the power distribution wrong, though. It's up to 85% to rear and 70% to the front. They got it backwards in the video.

I wouldn't want to ride co-pilot with that guy. He drives the corners like it's a closed course. One oncoming truck in the wrong spot and that's all she wrote.

Piece of cake. These are practically empty country roads with good visibility. Nothing I wouldn't do. You see oncoming traffic long in advance. Would be a different story going into blind corners like that.
