Hi Len,

I have a 2018 Audi A4 with a 7 inch screen. I’m really keen to do this upgrade.

am I correct in saying I just need to order a 10.1inch screen (part number: 8W2919620) and a decoder off Ali express…like the one on this link?
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/10050...apt=4itemAdapt

any help is really appreciated!!! Thank you!

Guys,

Why do I need to order a new screen tray? Can I not just use the one in my car?

I plan on doing a 7inch to 10.1inch screen upgrade,

Your post prompted me to follow the link and I will be interested in Len's view and others myself. In principle, yes, but I think there are perhaps some residual uncertainties over which box you will get, what settings to use, and whether there will be any "purple lines". Early buyers got a box with connectors on opposite sides and some got purple lines with the recommended settings (including me). The item you linked shows connectors on adjacent sides which is true for more recent buyers posting here; it also offers a different item choice for 7 > 10 inch vs 8 > 10 inch; first time I have seen that and it's probably a sign that the product is newer and, hopefully, better able to support different displays!

Browsing a little more, I noticed an ad showing the "old style" (opposed) box at a big discount - https://www.aliexpress.us/item/1005004201944380.html?gatewayAdapt=4itemAdapt.

Subject to other opinions, just make sure the cable is included and it will probably be just fine, but maybe not 100% guaranteed. Assume that returning the item will be the only solution if you are not happy (i.e. no technical support)

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

No, its a different tray. Sorry for not mentioning that. In the UK its usually included if you buy a screen from one of the breakers.

Hi everyone,

I’ve ordered a screen, decoder, tray and I have managed to get on trim price which goes behind the screen. Just waiting on it all arriving…hopefully this week🤞🏼

The two trim pieces which are circled in the attached picture cost £59 from my Audi dealer.🥴 I am trying to get in contact with some breakers to see if they have any in stock for cheaper.

However, I do remember someone saying they just cut their old trim piece to make it fit? Has anyone had any luck doing this?

thanks!

Another reason why you might consider cutting the old trim piece is because the new pieces will be Piano black rather than the matt black.
You might also be able.to find the old trim piece cheaper, to experiment on.

I think there were a few of us cutting the old trim parts, but I was one of them. In the last few weeks I also put a query in to several of the breaker brokers for the relevant part numbers but nothing came back.
Sorry, I dont have pictures of how I cut the trim but just use a small hacksaw to take maybe 10cm out of the middle; I think that includes both the clips in the middle span. Enough of the clips that are left at each end engage in the dash to stay secure so the "bare" area is only visible from outside the car.

Where did you get the rear piece from? Dealer?
If that is already installed you will have to measure the two end pieces before you cut them from the original.
I measured up to the new tray, used a very fine blade (coping/jewelers saw) to cut the ends off of my original trim, there are enough clips to hold securely.

Just installed an Innolux to replace the Alpine 7" in my 2018 A4. Found a handful of DIP switch settings that worked, but none seemed to help the aspect ratio stretching. Everything is a little stretched, but otherwise works. Is this solvable?

@bruce_miranda @dbomb1203
Here are the part numbers for the trims, RHD versions, in the original matt grey finish. Also the UK Audi dealer prices incl. VAT

8W2 857 735 - Carrier bracket - £36
8W2 857 968 6PS - Centre trim (behind the screen) - £17.90
8W2 857 966 6PS - Right cover trim - £17.90
8W2 857 967 6PS - Left cover trim - £17.90
N 10828001 - Carrier and screen mount bolts, 2 needed - £0.55

The matt finish pieces are actually a lot cheaper than the glossy black ones. The center rear piece is only available in the matt finish.
For US / LHD variants of everything, change the 8W2 to 8W1 for everything. 6PS is the colour code for soul black.

Matt grey finish trim pieces.
