Default Remote key issue

Hi,

I have a 2017 A4 Premium Plus Tech Package and as of a few days ago I've had an issue with the remote key fob. I can unlock and lock the car with the key fob but when I try to start the vehicle with the push button I receive a message on the dash saying "Remote control key: hold back of key against the designated area. See owner's manual." I tried holding the key fob in the designated center console area numerous times and the car still won't start.

Then I tried doing that that with my spare key fob and it also didn't work. I also tried doing that with both key fobs in the car and then separately with only one key fob in the car at a time and the other in the house. I then searched online and consulted forums and saw old threads about similar issues, but with most of those people seemed to be unable to unlock the car and commenters recommended replacing the battery. Here the key fob itself seems to be working fine since the car locks/unlocks, but I went ahead and replaced the battery in both key fobs with a 2032 battery, and I'm still experiencing the same issue.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Scan for DTCs, see what the car is saying is actually the issue. Then pursue the actual issue. Should see something under 46-Central Convenience (J393).

In another post with similar issues, the solution was to reseat the carrier holding the battery. Remove your fob battery holder and put it back in while slightly wiggling it. I had to do the same when replacing the battery on one of my keys.
