Default Rougher Ride with Summer Tires?

Hey Guys.

Just picked up my 2018 A4 Premium Plus with the black optic plus package and optional wheel package. After driving it the past week, I've noticed more road feel than I was used to with my 2016 A4 with allseason tires. Even at lower speeds, the seems to be more feedback in the steering. At highway speeds, the vibrations seem to be more pronounced. Could this have to do with the summer tires? I'd also like to add that I live in NJ and the temps have dropped a bit lately. I've heard that the summer tires don't perform as well in colder weather. I am planning on getting all season tires on as soon as possible, but I was just wondering if the rougher ride could be attributed to the summer tires. Thanks!

Colder summer tyres = harder compound = more feel and feed back from the road surface.

Ryan, what do you have your tires inflated to?

Also if you got the 19" summer tire package the shorter sidewalls will make for a stiffer ride. If you want the smoothest ride go for smaller wheels and taller sidewalls.

Summer tires turn hocky puck hard at temperatures below 40 and really should not be driven in freezing temperatures.

All good responses, but I'm very surprised your car would come with summer tires - being in NJ.

Black Optic Plus comes with summer tires. However, Im sure the tires are incorrectly inflated from the dealership, plus the hardening of the rubber compound in the cold, is attributing to the OP's discovery.

I have the BO + Package on my car and it came with all season tires. The OP mentioned getting the "optional wheel package" which may come with summer rubber.

I forgot to add that in my quote of what the OP said. Correct, its in the optional wheel/tire package.

Standard BO package comes with 18" wheels and All Season Tires..The optional 19" wheels come with Summer Tires. Can't imagine why anyone in NJ or NY would want 19" wheels what with our trashed up roads. FWIW I have BO package and swapped out the Pirelli P7 for Michelin Pilot AS3 plus Big improvement!
