AWD definitely will help you steer.

I was surprised at how well my car with all seasons handled my steep snow-covered driveway yesterday.

I wouldn't call that driving...more like plowing.

My wife is from Pittsburgh and we visit there often, they have some seriously steep streets there. I've always loved this Audi B9 Quattro promo done on one of those streets.

I love that video. Even though it's an ad and probably doesn't show the real story (just guessing), it makes me feel very happy and proud of the B9!!!

Btw, I thought it was some European country and not Pittsburgh!

All the systems have there strengths and weaknesses, but they seem to be pretty comparable. I have blizzaks on my BMW X3 and my Audi A4. They both handle really well and I'd say they feel about the same in most snow and Ice conditions. If we 8 inches or more on the road before the plow comes through then the X3 does a little better because of the extra ground clearance.

Bob, many years ago my wife drove an '02 A4, while I had a beater '97 Subaru Outback Sport (based on the Impreza) for winter driving. I put snows on her Audi, but ran all-seasons on my Subaru. I have to say, as competent and sure-footed as her Audi was in the snow, the Subaru always seemed to hold the edge. This was exaggerated by the fact that, while the Subaru was fun to drive, it was no match for the Audi in dry conditions. The Subaru just seemed to love the snow.

I had snow tires (on separate rims) for my first two Audi A4s, and by the time I purchased my B8 in 2009, I got tired of switching tires every winter and spring.

I drove my B8 through several blizzards with all-season tires, and I never got stuck, even in pretty deep snow. I did learn one important lesson, however: Turn off your ESP in deep snow! The difference in your car's ability to handle deep snow is amazing.

With ESP on, you car keeps applying brakes to wheels it thinks are sliding, instead of letting the wheels turn and supply more traction.
