I have googled for the owner's manual, but not many out there and certainly not one that is searchable

Just look for an A4 on your dealers website. They usually have a VIN number listed for each car. You can use that to pull up the manual on MY Audi site.

I always thoroughly research before I buy. I also never buy new. My loaded CPO A8 didn't cost much more than a brand new A4. Having said that the MMI in a new A4 is considerably more advanced than a brand new A8. Technology in cars is advancing very quickly and has become much cheaper. You can get some serious technology even in an inexpensive american car. What you don't get in a cheaper car is the level of build quality that you get from a German car. I'll take build quality over tech all day long.
