Default Wheel cap removal tool

In the Fall I went to do my summer - winter wheel change and discovered that the little tool for removing the caps on the lug nuts had taken a hike. I thought that perhaps it had dropped out of the tool tray into the spare tire storage area; but, removing everything and checking yielded nada. Removing the caps without mangling them did prove a bit of a challenge; but, that is a different story.

I went to the Audi web store to check out the replacement price for the tool and decided that is not happening. A little searching on-line yielded this on AliExpress

That is $1.52 for two tools so I ordered four for a cost of less than $5 Cdn including shipping and strategically spread them around so that I should be able to locate at least one of them in the future. The package did take forever to arrive (months not weeks) and the post mark was from the UAE so go figure that one out. The tool appears to be a dead ringer for the original Audi part so perhaps they are the OE supplier?

Nice! I have a few of these "tools", but once I take the caps off, they never go back... unless I'm selling the car.

Some folks have recommended the paint can opening tool that you can readily get from your nearest paint supplier / hardware store.

I replaced the OEM lug bolts with black ones. No plastic cap needed!

Special deal - 7 cents off, tomorrow only!

What's the curved wire piece? 33 cents. Or 59 cents for both.

I have an inexpensive set of alloy wheels that I picked up for my winter tires and they have a one piece, 5 pointed star kind of thing that connects the five lug nut caps. That cover uses that curved wire piece as an extraction tool.
