Wheel options on the 2017's are horrible

Hey, it takes someone with lots of integrity to admit they changed their mind. I'm glad you like them now. I think they are beautiful in person and I have felt they suited the car since the day I took delivery. One of the salesmen at my dealership (not my salesman) said they made the A4 look like a "mini A8". I agree. In fact, I'm looking at the wheels that come on the S4 and I'm not sure they look better.
And BTW, your Tango Red A4 looks fantastic!

I think the busier looking wheel compliments the car well. I haven't had mine long and have only put about 300 miles on it. Curious to see how bad the brake dust is with this one as compared to my previous Audis.

yes, those look "flat" and way too tech/transformer. i actually stopped looking at the current A6 because of how ugly it's 20" wheels are. they lost a sale! they are THAT bad.
the 19's on the B9 A4 are well matched, because this edition has the chrome surrounds which are more "luxury" look than the black optic "sport" look.
audi always looks good with 5-spoke clean:

those are HRE's. i think they are honestly too expensive for A4's unless you have money to burn. some guys go for them on the S4 though. it depends how much of a hobby the car is to you. if you want to gush every time you see your car, then HRE, ADV.1, etc. are the right kind of wheels paired with coils or lowering springs with upgraded dampers.

The brakes on my A4 are appreciably better than the ones on my A7!!! I use the same pressure I use in the A4, in the A7 and I realise that the A7 doesn't slow down as fast.

Amazing how Audi was able to make that happen, and we didn't even have to purchase ceramic brake pads for an extra $5k!

They are special, optimized low dust brake pads for North America. You'll see this on most A models. S and RS models have different pad compositions which will dust more (for cars with steel brakes and not ceramics).

Good to know. I think you may have just made my decision between an A5 Sportback and S5 Sportback. The A5 will have plenty of power and great handling, and the wheels won't have brake dust. That's all I need.
